Driver tips

Stay safe, stay rolling

What to do if you break down, and simple maintenance that keeps you from needing us in the first place.

Roadside courtesy

If you break down

  1. Hazards on

Turn on your hazard lights right away so other drivers see you.

  2. Get to the right

Pull onto the right shoulder, as far from traffic as you safely can.

  3. Wheels and brake

On a slope, turn your wheels away from the road and set the parking brake.

  4. Stay inside

Stay in your vehicle with your seatbelt on unless it's safe to get out.

  5. Raise the hood

Lifting the hood signals other drivers that you need help.

  6. Call for help

    Call B & C at (609) 526-8711. In an emergency, call 911.

General maintenance

Keep your car out of trouble

Tires

  • Check tire pressure monthly; a slow drop can mean a leak.
  • Rotate tires about every 10,000 miles, or every other oil change, so they wear evenly.

Engine & fluids

  • Check your oil monthly, or as your owner's manual says.
  • Change oil about every 5,000 miles.
  • Top off coolant, brake fluid, transmission fluid and washer fluid.

Safety checks

  • Test headlights, brake lights and turn signals.
  • Replace wiper blades regularly.
  • Have brakes inspected if they squeal, grind or feel soft.
